Pete Marquis joined Carolina Financial Group in 2017 and focuses on financings and mergers and acquisitions across a variety of industry sectors including energy, unregulated power and utilities. He is also responsible for expanding Carolina Financial Group’s presence in the greater Atlanta area. Pete has spent over 20 years as an investment banker and principal investor, having executed financings and strategic transactions with public and private companies, comprising minority and control investments, investment grade, high-yield and tax-exempt bond financings and bank term loans.
Prior to joining Carolina Financial Group, Pete served as a Managing Director in the Energy Investment Banking Group at SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, Inc. Over that five-year period, Pete provided services related to mergers, acquisitions and capital markets and bank financings to both corporations and financial sponsors. Pete was instrumental in developing and implementing a power project finance business at SunTrust that structured and closed over 25 project financing transactions aggregating over $1.5 billion in committed capital.
From 2005 to 2008, Pete served as a Managing Director at GE Energy Financial Services in Stamford, CT, a unit of GE Capital. While at GE, Pete was responsible for originating, structuring and closing principal equity investments in power assets. During his career Pete has also had extensive investment banking experience at firms including FBR Capital Markets, Lazard, Morgan Stanley, Barr Devlin Associates and Smith Barney.
Prior to commencing a career in finance, Pete served for seven years as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Navy. During that time Pete held division officer and department head positions, including Weapons Officer, aboard a nuclear powered attack submarine and was a Tactics Instructor at the Naval Submarine School in Groton, CT.
Pete received a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a Masters in Finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Pete lives in Atlanta, GA with his wife and son and a feisty golden retriever named Boomer.
